  • Can I shower or do laundry if my septic tank is overflowing?

If your septic tank is too full, you should avoid showering, doing laundry or running any water. A septic tank that is already overflowing could lead to sewage backups. Contact Nolen Septic Services for septic cleaning and more today.

  • What is the most common cause of septic tank failure?

Septic tanks can fail if you don’t properly maintain them. Other common failures are due to blockages in the pipes or excess water leaking into the septic system. According to the EPA, a septic tank should be inspected every one to three years and pumped every three to five years. Ensure that your septic tank does not fail by contacting Nolen Septic Services today. We offer septic cleaning, pumping, and more.

  • Can you flush the toilet when the septic is being pumped?

You should check with your septic professionals before using the toilet during a septic tank pump. If you need septic cleaning or pumping services, rely on our team.

  • How often should I get my septic tank serviced?

According to the EPA, a septic tank should be inspected every one to three years and pumped every three to five years. However, the frequency you need to pump your septic tank will depend on the size of the tank, how many people live in the home, how often people shower or flush the toilet, and how much solid matter accumulates in the tank. Don't hesitate to contact Nolen Septic Services for septic cleaning, pumping, and more today.

  • I thought I never had to pump my tank. Is that true?

False. "Never" is a long time!  Although the frequency you need to pump your septic tank will depend on the size of the tank, how many people live in the home, how often people shower or flush the toilet, and how much solid matter accumulates in the tank, it is not true that the tank never needs to be pumped.  Regular maintenance will extend the life of your system.

  • How long will my system last?

Septic tanks generally last 15 to 40 years, depending on the type of system and how well they were maintained.

  • Does it matter what I flush or put down the drain?

Yes!  Non-biodegradable items, like diapers, tampons, sanitary napkins and paper towels, impact the systems ability to function properly.   The system also struggles with excessive amounts of cooking fats, bath oils and bleach. All these things have a negative affect on the biological process in your tank and some will even cause blockage in your lines.  If you want to see us sooner, flush away!

  • Is there an additive I can add, such as Rid-X, so I do not need to pump my tank?

No, even if you use an additive, the tank will still fill up with undigested solids over time.
